Block Volumes

Block volumes are persistent disks for your instances.

They work like an external drive. You attach a volume to one instance. You mount it in the OS. You detach it later and reuse it.

What to know

  • Volumes are regional. Your instance and volume must be in the same location.

  • A volume can be attached to one instance at a time.

  • Detach or shut down before cloning or moving volumes.

  • Resizing in the console may require filesystem expansion inside the OS.
